Origin Story

There is a moment that every creator dreads—a challenge to the ownership of their work. In 2012, Jamar Jones, one of our founders, lived that moment when the rights to a song he had written seven years earlier were called into question. Thankfully, he had clear, timestamped evidence to prove his ownership, resolving the issue quickly. But the experience left him uneasy. What if he hadn’t been so prepared? What if a minor oversight had spiraled into a legal nightmare? It was a stark reminder that intellectual property ownership isn’t guaranteed if it cannot be proven.

Jamar knew he wasn’t alone. Many creators face similar battles, and he, along with his close friend Marcus Dawson, decided it was time to act. They asked themselves a bold question: "What if we could make airtight protection accessible to every artist?" Fueled by this vision, they assembled a powerhouse team of experts in music, entertainment, technology, and intellectual property law. From this collaboration, UNMUTE was born.

The Team

Marcus Dawson is an executive with extensive experience spanning multiple specialties including: music production, international business development, real-estate development, non-profit management, and entertainment.

On top of founding UNMUTE, Marcus is also an executive within the T.D. Jakes organization, a position that maximizes his ability to represent the organization and serve as an effective ambassador between multiple high-profile initiatives.

In his role as Managing Member of TDJREV, Marcus ensures that the greatest impact can be made through the partnership of T.D. Jakes’ organizational platforms and experts who are best in class in various real estate categories. Marcus was instrumental in assisting in the formation of TD Jakes Real Estate Ventures (TDJ-REV).

Jamar Jones is an award-winning songwriter, producer, and recording artist whose work has shaped the sound of modern music. A Philadelphia native, Jamar began playing piano at the age of four and quickly rose to prominence in the industry.

He has collaborated with iconic artists including Boyz II Men, Usher, Tamela Mann, Musiq Soulchild, and Vivian Green, earning gold and platinum certifications across multiple projects. His songwriting and production credits include Usher’s Here I Stand, which earned him an ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Award.

Jamar also contributed to The New Edition Story, which garnered over 32 million viewers and earned him an ASCAP Film and Television Award. His compositions have appeared in television and film, including Young and the Restless, Rebel (directed by John Singleton), and the award-winning soundtrack for The Greatest Showman.

As a performer, Jamar’s career is equally impressive. He has toured with Jill Scott since 2005 and shared the stage with Mary Mary, Jamie Foxx, and the Rickey Minor Band. His performances have graced major stages such as the Grammys, BET Awards, and AMAs, often alongside Adam Blackstone and the BBE Allstars.

His debut album, Fatherless Child, released on GPE Records, a label owned by Patti LaBelle, highlights his ability to blend technical mastery with heartfelt storytelling. Jamar also co-starred on the double-piano album Sunday Morning at the Piano with the late Quennel Gaskin.

In addition to his music career, Jamar has produced faith-based films and served as Director of Music Industry Studies at the University of Texas at Arlington, leaving a lasting impact on the next generation of artists.

As an attorney, co-founder, and strategic advisor at Unmute, Neal Madan provides legal oversight, ensuring compliance, intellectual property protection, and strong governance frameworks.

Outside of Unmute, Neal is the founding partner at Madan & Saigal LLC, offering strategic legal counsel to enterprises, investors, and startups across high-growth sectors.

With expertise in corporate law, intellectual property, and cross-border transactions, Neal also advises information and operational technology firms, clean tech ventures, health tech companies, and real estate enterprises in navigating complex matters.

He works closely with clients to identify opportunities, mitigate risks, and drive sustainable growth across the U.S., India, and other global markets.

Vishal Panchal is an accomplished executive with over 14 years of experience in the tech and entertainment sectors. Currently, Vishal serves as Chief Revenue Officer at Unmute (a MusiTrust company). Prior to this, he spearheaded partnerships and business development at Leapcure, a med tech startup, where he played a crucial role in supporting researchers by connecting patients with clinical trials.

Prior to Leapcure, Vishal held pivotal roles at Wondery, the popular podcast network, where he oversaw content and distribution partnerships. Notably, he was instrumental in Wondery's acquisition by Amazon Music in 2021 and led the groundbreaking deal to bring the SmartLess podcast to the network—then the largest deal of its kind in podcasting. Vishal also expanded Wondery's reach by forging strategic distribution partnerships, enabling the Wondery app to be available on hundreds of millions of devices.

Earlier in his career, Vishal led sales and business development for Shout! Factory, where he launched Shout! Studios, an independent film distribution division that helped ensure the company’s long-term success.

Throughout his career, Vishal has been passionate about aligning technological innovation with customer needs, a focus he continues to pursue at Unmute, empowering artists globally.
